HOW TO CURATE YOUR APARTMENT TO FEEL LIKE YOU
January 28, 2021

When I first moved into my apartment it was so bare and impersonal. I have slowly and warmly transformed it into my home over the seven months that I have lived here. One of my friends who has seen the before and after of my place is always amazed every time he comes to visit.
Display Something Personal or Memorable
Put up family photographs, memories with friends, trips and adventures that you had. Personally, I have a photograph of my mom and brother from when we were kids. It reminds me of them every single time I look at it. I love how simple it is. However, If you have more pictures, you could do a gallery wall! I also have a painting from my travel from Dakar hanging above my bed. Such personal items instantly give your room or house a personal touch. Moreover, they also serve you with good memories!
Here are some. good ideas:
- On your bedside table:
2. Above your bed:
I love this idea of a gallery wall!
Add a touch of color
A pop of color instantly lifts the mood inside a room. Color attracts the eyes and breaks the monotony of whichever dominant color you have. Personally, I shy away from color. However, I do have plants and a leather pillow to break the black-white monotony. You can also play around with texture to add dimension especially if the room is small like mine was. You can alter the room’s painting, covers, headboard or rug to meet this. Or even a colorful couch.
Here are a few ideas:
I love this idea of a colored headboard! I really want to try it someday.
Incorporate Therapeutic Items
You are going to be spending upwards of 80% of your time in your room, especially if you are working from home. Make an effort to incorporate therapeutic items such as:
1. Scented candles
2. Essential oils
3. Plants
4. Natural light(literally open the window)
5. Low-tune music(get a good speaker)
6. Therapy lights

Personally, I realized that aromatherapy works wonders for me. My room could be a mess but my essential oils will be flowing in the air. I also try to get as much direct sunlight in as possible. How about you? Share some cool or interesting ideas below:
